Dedication & Donor Event Friday, June 11 | 7:30 P.M.| 529 E Main St., Ottumwa

In February of 2019 the Congregation of B'nai Jacob gifted the synagogue to AGPA. The main building was designed by Ottumwa architect George Kerns in a Renaissance or Deco Vernacular style. Construction was completed in 1915, and it was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 2004. The attached gathering hall and kitchen were added in 1950. We are excited to welcome our donors to the dedication of the rehabilitated performance and event space. Enjoy hor d'oeuvres, drink, and special dedicatory performances by our guest artists throughout the evening.

One of the greatest operas ever written, Mozart’s timeless classic concerns the search for truth and reason, love and enlightenment.

It follows the adventures of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno on their quest to rescue Pamina. To assist their mission, they are given musical instruments enhanced with magical powers, which they deploy to conquer the trials and tribulations placed in their path towards a deeper understanding of true love and happiness.

Excerpts from the opera will be presented for area children and other residents throughout the region at various locations in Wapello County. Go to www.americangothicfest.org for further details on those performances.

The Story

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family.
